The Chiense Inventions
Gunpowder
Gunpowder was invented in the Tang Dynasty. It didn't have any life threatening stuff in it. It did although go off with a bang nearly straight away. Many people thought that they discoverd it only for fireworks but the real reason was for miltary reasons as well.
Compass
A compass is used to tell where North, South, West and East is. The Chinese invented it in the Qin Dynasty. They used iron oxide (which aligns itself in a North-South direction). They designed the first compass on a square map with markings on it. The needle always points South.
Paper
The first form of paper was made in 206BC. This paper was thick and had uneven texture. The paper was made out of hemp fibers.
In the Eastern Hand Dynasty, Cail Lun invented a different type of paper out of bark, hemp, rags, fishnet, wheat stalks and other materials. It was very cheap and was light and good for brush writing.
Before paper was made the fisrt emperor had to read over 120 sheets of writing which wore written on bark and bamboo. When paper was made it showed the Chinese that the country was moving forward.

Printing
This is block printing.
Block printing
After the invention of ink and paper the Chinese invented block printing. It was first seen in the Tang Dynasty. The text was first written on a piece of thin paper, then glued face down onto a wooden plate.
It took a lot of time and energy aswell as alot of materials to make a printing book. It was very stressful and a big waste. The boards come useless after one use and you couldnt use them again. If one word stuff up it would stuff up the whole printing book.
Movable printing.
Instead of a group of Chinese characters, there would be only one characters on pieces of fine clay. The block of clay would be hardened by fire and would became hard and durable and could be used wherever required. The pieces could be glued on to anything and easly taken off and put away in storage for another time of use.
In the early 1000 years modern styled page books replaced scrolls.

Wheelbarrow
It is said that a Chinese man called Zhuge Liang, a wise minister created the wheelbarrow. It was used in small bumpy places. A wheelbarrow is an easy and affordable way to carry all sorts of things to different places. The wheelbarow was made in the past out of wood. The wheels divided the cart into 2 parts. Between two handlebars, a rope was there for helping the drivers behind to keep the wheelbarrow going forward.. The carriage was usually deep so you could fit a lot of stuff into the wheelbarrow.
Waterwheel
The Chinese spent a lot of money and time on their projects. They invented a device that draws the water out of the river with the use of a beam or wooden shelf. On one side of the beam was a bucket and the other a heavy weight or something else that was heavy. This device saves time and energy. The creator was in the Han Dynasty (25-220).
Matches
The first sighting of the match was in 557AD. They were designed to be a quick and an easy way to have light in the night. At the slightest touch they burst into flame. This marvellous matter was formerly called a ‘light-bringing slave’, but its name was changed to ‘fire inch-stick’.
Fireworks
The Chinese used saltpeter to make fireworks. The legend is they put saltpeter into a frying pan and it went off with a bang and a huge flame. Saltpeter is also used as gunpowder and flavouring salt. This mixture burnes with a pretty flame. Firecrackers were bamboo shoots filled with gunpowder.
