If she didnt give birth to a boy the husband would sometimes go find another wife. If the familes were poor they would sell the girls to the rich as servants.
Men
Men had a lot more power than the females. The eldest man made all the choices of what each family member did that day.

Peasants had the hardest life of all, the peasants worked all day. Sometimes the land they worked on wasn't even theirs, they worked hard on someone else's farm! The land was usually owned by a nobleman or king. The peasants celebrated Spring Festival, where the young people got together and had a good time. This celebration is like Chinese New Year. It is a celebration for the good harvest or the good year that has passed.
Clothing
Clothing was very important to the Chinese. The rich wore fine fabrics. The poor wore cheaper fabrics that was rough on their skin. The men mostly wore their hair long and thought it was rude to cut their hair beacuse it was a gift from their parents. Men were never seen in public without headwear. Most of the Chinese people wore tunics, women wore long tunics with belts and men wore shorter ones.
Colour was very important to them. If a colour was picked as a royal colur it could not be worn by anyone than the emperor. In the Shang Dynasty the royal colour was yellow.

Education
It wasn't important to educate the women. Ancestor worship was important to men as they remained loyal to be in their family. If the women had a school father she could learn off him but most women didn't go to school. The ladies weren't allowed to take exams of any sort.
Class structure
The peasants were very poor and didn't have class structure. Peasants lived in houses made from mud or bamboo and not a modern floor, as we know today. The nobles and kings had the peasants build palaces and summer homes. They were made out of mud and bamboo and a whole lot cleaner, neater, prettier and a whole lot better than the peasants houses. The noblemen and kings really liked candles and they decorated their homes with bronze candlesticks.
